Ethics in clinical researches, and history and current status of research ethics in Japan: Invited talk from Japan at the international symposium in Korea in June 2021

2021年6月18日 韓国にて、Korean Academy of Science and Technology(KAST)とNational Academy of Medicine of Korea (NAMOK)の共同主催によるシンポジウム「2021 KAST and NAMOK Joint International Symposium」が開催されました。シンポジウムの目的は「to provide a symposium for international exchange and discussion of concept, research methods, regulations, and systems related to conducting good scientific and ethical biomedical research」とされ、シンポジウムは「Session I: Scientific Research」と「Session II: Ethical Research」の二部構成、韓国外からは、米国Rutgers大学長のBrian L Strom教授(Session I)と、日本から本学会久保田理事が参加し招待講演を行いました(Session II)。

久保田理事のご講演「Biomedical Research Ethics Regulation in Japan」につき主催者からの許諾を頂き、日本薬剤疫学会研究倫理検討委員会からの情報発信として、ウェブサイトで公開いたします。30分弱の英語による講演で、日本における研究倫理の歴史と現状が紹介・論評されています。

 

◆ 臨床研究の倫理性と日本の研究倫理の歴史と現状◆

 

On June 18, 2021 (12:00 to 16:50), an international symposium was held jointly by Korean Academy of Science and Technology(KAST) and National Academy of Medicine of Korea (NAMOK). The objectives of the symposium were "to provide a symposium for international exchange and discussion of concept, research methods, regulations, and systems related to conducting good scientific and ethical biomedical research", and it was composed of "Session I: Scientific Research" and "Session II: Ethical Research". Professor Brian L Strom, Chancellor of Rutgers University from US (at Session I), and Dr. Kiyoshi Kubota, a trustee of Japanese Society for Pharmacoepidemiology (JSPE) from Japan (at Session II) gave a talk as international invited speakers. Subjects covered by Dr. Kubota were according to requests from organizers and entitled as "Biomedical Research Ethics Regulation in Japan". Following the recommendation by the steering board members of JSPE and with the permission from the Symposium organizer, the lecture by Dr. Kubota at the symposium is hereby opened to public as an activity of information sharing by Committee on Research Ethics of JSPE. The lecture video in English takes less than 30 minutes, covering what makes clinical studies ethical, and history and current status of Japanese research ethics.
